Reading freight flow is vital if you run long distance in a cargo van.

The fear of sitting still makes you take any rate. That bill comes due later. Know your cost, then weigh your options.

The math nobody shows you in week one

Manhattan, New York · the other end of the map

01

Rate lies. Exit odds don’t.

A $1.10 load in a red state can still wreck your week if you’re stuck till Monday. Cheap freight usually means nobody wants to be there — not that you found a deal.

02

The timing game

Brokers post at 2 a.m. for a reason. If you know how freight moves in that area, you don’t grab the first number out of panic.

03

Know your number first

Without cost per mile, every load looks fine until Friday. That’s how you close the week in the red with a full van.

Sheet: analyze your feasibility

Before you invest, check the costs and whether this business is worth entering. The math that decides whether that van, at that price, with your mileage, actually works.

  • Full startup investment — van, authority, insurance, equipment, reserve
  • Monthly fixed cost: what runs even when the van is parked
  • Per-mile dilution across three mileage scenarios
  • 12 months projected and the month your investment comes back

OperatorX — run the operation

Spreadsheets disappear; a wrong number sticks. OperatorX shows profit per load and whether the week closed in the black.

  • Profit per load, not just the rate
  • Third-party driver settlement (90/10), advances and reimbursements
  • Fuel, fixed cost and cash flow in one place

Is the map the absolute truth?

No. As a read on trend and freight flow history it works well — but there will be days when Chicago is worse than New York, and the other way around. The market is supply and demand: if you happen to be somewhere short on vans, they will offer you something very good. What the map shows is the odds, not a guarantee for that day.

I don’t have the van yet. Worth it?

Yes. The guide starts before the van — company, authority, insurance, what to check on the vehicle. If you already run, the quoting and broker sections are the payoff.

Is the e-book a PDF?

No. Online reading only, watermarked — keeps the price down and the file out of WhatsApp groups.

Why a subscription instead of a spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet works until advances, reimbursements, fixed cost and a third-party driver show up — then it lies, or it eats your night. OperatorX comes ready, calculates profit per load and closes the week. 15 days free, no card: drop last week in and see if the math matches what you thought.

Wait — the map is actually free?

Yes. Map and shop list stay free. For PNG or PDF I only ask name and email so I can tell you when we update.

How do I pay?

The e-book and the sheet are card through Stripe, one-time payment, on this site. OperatorX is a monthly subscription, purchased and billed on its own page (getoperatorx.co) — with a 15-day trial without a card and cancellation any time.

Are you going to tell me I’ll get rich?

No. Market’s in a down cycle and the map doesn’t pretend otherwise. What changes is you stop guessing on rates.

Start with the map. It is free and it already changes next week.

Open the map, check the grade of the state you are in and the playbook for that level. If it makes sense, the e-book takes you the rest of the way.

Canada The run up pays above $1.25/mi. The way back pays like Los Angeles — price the pair, not just the loaded leg. Key hubs on the map: Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Québec.

Notes & field tips

01

Use this map as a reference, not as absolute truth: terrible areas can pay above the rule and excellent areas can pay below it. It all depends on the load flow that day!

02

Never plan to leave a terrible area on a Friday — the odds of sitting all weekend are high.

03

It is cheaper to deadhead out of a terrible area into a bad one than to sit and wait for luck.

04

Only run into terrible areas if it closes your weekly goal, leaving margin to move empty to a better area after delivery.

05

Partial loads are forbidden: high fines and losing good customers can wipe out everything.

06

Charge the right rate. Do not try to get rich on one load, but do not panic either: learn the timing game. Brokers work on your head by posting loads at awkward hours to catch you on price.

07

If you do not trust your vehicle, stay out of terrible areas.

08

Friday afternoon everyone is desperate and your odds drop.

09

Monday in a terrible area is a rate war. If you came in cheap, you will have to leave cheap — and the math does not work.

10

There is no hiding that the market is in a down cycle: know your costs to the cent, ideally in a spreadsheet.

Gear to operate with comfort and safety

Our goal is to show you what matters and what makes the day-to-day of your operation bearable. We sell nothing and are commissioned on nothing — this is purely for guidance.

The links are only so you can see the product and compare on your own. It is also worth walking a physical store: Harbor Freight, for one, has plenty of good gear at a price that lets the math work.

Who we are

Expedited Hub started from a question nobody answered in full.

2023. One person told me I needed a DOT number. Another said to just buy whatever van my pocket allowed. A third said the MC was missing. Half information — and priced high.

If I had paid for everything I was offered just to understand how to start the right way, there might have been nothing left to actually start the business.

So I went after it myself: FMCSA rules at the source, an accountant, a lawyer, an insurance broker. I built my own path, from the first form to the first load. I started organized — and I watched friends and colleagues go under for lack of planning, because what they were told was never the whole thing.

That is where the urge to help came from. I gave straight, simple advice to a lot of people, charged nothing, and saw with my own eyes how hard this market is. Expedited Hub comes from that: getting the basics to people who are starting with little, and doing it with respect.

Along the way the operation grew to 11 vehicles running. In 2026 I sold it and decided to put my time into passing the knowledge forward — that is what this hub is.

What we sell here exists to keep the hub standing. Nothing beyond that.

I genuinely hope Expedited Hub saves you money and frustration, and gives you direction in the most important stage of the business: the beginning. Use it — it is the gold I wish I had when I started.

Feel free to email me. That is what we are here for.
